About the Role

The Special Populations Coordinator will serve as an experienced educator who fosters independence, self-discovery, and a love of learning in students. They will oversee a caseload and deliver direct assistance to students with exceptional needs, fostering their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social development to maximize their potential. The Special Populations Coordinator will provide critical guidance to the Lead Guides to ensure that all staff are complying with IEPs, ILPs, and 504 Plans to meet the needs of students with exceptional needs. The coordinator will work directly with the administration to ensure compliance for all special populations students, management of personnel in the special populations department, and provide professional development as needed. 


Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Curriculum Development  and Instruction

  • Ensure adherence to federal, state, and district regulations concerning Exceptional Education and English Language Learners (ELL)

  • Develop processes for entering and exiting students into services

  • Supervise the development, revision, and implementation of IEPs, ILPs, and 504 plans, and lead the associated meetings.

  • Co-plan as necessary with general education teachers to ensure the appropriate accommodations for exceptional education students

  • Create and implement remediation plans using the Response to Intervention and Instruction model from observational, academic, and behavioral data

  • Serve as a mentor and point of contact for a small group of students assigned at the beginning of the year

Classroom Culture

  • Foster habits of excellence, order, and courtesy through practices like connecting before redirecting, using a warm tone, matching children with tasks, presenting virtuous literature, and sharing responsibility for all children.

  • Be a model of character and strive toward virtue for all students

Family Engagement & Communication

  • Establish and maintain strong communication with all parents and share student progress

  • Be available for conferences, open house, and other school events involving parents

  • Make him/herself available to all students, parents, and other staff members

Professional Development and Relationships

  • Collaborate in planning professional development opportunities to enhance staff knowledge of exceptional education services.

  • Participate in formal check-in with an assigned coach based on an approved cadence

  • Engage in both school-wide and individual professional development sessions

Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Education or a related field.

  • Valid Tennessee teaching license with the appropriate content endorsement to teach SPED, ELL endorsement, and/or a valid out-of-state license that can successfully be transferred to Tennessee within 90 days of employment

  • Ability to write and execute IEPs, ILPs, and 504 plans and meetings

  • Committed to the mission and core values of Invictus Nashville

  • Five or more years of effective teaching experience in urban schools in high-need communities

  • Knowledge of curriculum content and children’s developmental needs

  • Flexibility, initiative, and personal responsibility to work in a fast-paced startup environment

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Skills in instructional practices and classroom management for student achievementDevelops and maintains positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and other members of the Invictus Nashville community

  • Ability to work independently and collaborate in teams with a wide range of individuals.

  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and diverse learning community

  • Experience and evidence of fostering collaboration and teamwork among diverse groups of students

This position may require up to 15% of travel.

Compensation

Invictus Nashville offers full-time employees competitive salaries and benefits options. As indicated below, individuals hired in this role have the following salary range associated with their experience: $75,000 -85,000
